How does it work?

Frequently Asked Questions

How to quickly select the whole paragraph?

On mac, simply triple-click the text and the whole paragraph will be selected.

Note for iPhone or iPad users: this only works if you have a mouse connected.

How to merge some of my highlights?

There are 2 main ways to merge your highlights:

  • Start your selection at the beginning of the first highlight and end it at the end of the last one. All highlights within that range will be combined into a single highlight, regardless of their original colors.
Note: If there are any gaps between the highlights, those gaps will also be included in the merged highlight.
  • Simply start and end your selection anywhere within the boundaries of the highlights with the same color and they will be merged into one.

How to undo a highlight?

Press Shift+Option+Z (Mac) or use the undo button in the toolbar to undo the last highlight action.

How to change a highlight's color?

First select the new color you want from the toolbar, then tap or click an existing highlight to change it to that color.

How to split a highlight?

Select a portion of an existing highlight using a different color (or use the eraser) to split it into two separate highlights.

What are the selection modes?

  • Characters: precise character-level selection.
  • Words: snaps the selection to full words.
  • None: pauses highlighting so you can select text normally without triggering a highlight.

What are tags and how do I use them?

Tags let you organize highlights with custom names and colors.

  • In the app create tags and assign them to your highlights. Select a tag to see all highlights grouped by it across all websites.
  • In Safari set an active tag in the extension popup — it will auto-apply to every new highlight you make.

What export formats are available?

PDF, plain text, and JSON — all formats include source links. You can also share highlights via the system share sheet to Notes, Mail, or other apps.

Where are my highlights stored? Are they private?

All highlights are saved locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server — no account needed, no syncing. Your data stays private and offline.

Can I sync highlights across devices?

Not currently. Highlights are stored locally on each device and are not synced.

What keyboard shortcuts are available?

Toggle highlighting on/off, switch colors, activate the eraser, undo, show current tag, etc.
